The Over Players were first formed in 1984 and from the original interest expressed it soon became apparent that here were a group of people who couldn't wait to get up on stage to perform!!!  From those early days we usually maintain a membership of around 50 people who perform, direct and produce, set-build and paint, make-up and front of house – anything really that is needed to produce a show from scratch.

The group soon settled into the routine of performing a Spring Show and Pantomime each year and past productions have included Aladdin, My Fair Lady, Dick Whittington, Wind in the Willows, Treasure Island, Fiddler on the Roof, Mother Goose, Calamity Jane and Billy the Musical to name just a few of the 60 or so productions to date.  We've also been known to perform our own revues and such shows have included 'Overflow', 'Back to the Sixties', 'Over the Ocean Wave' and 'The NAFTA Awards'.  This last show was based on the theme of 'coarse acting' and included Moby Dick in 20 minutes, Fenside Story, loosely based on West Side Story, and King Henry 10^th Part 7!!! 

In recent years the group have also performed a number of 'Old Time Music Hall' shows on behalf of local charities both within Over as well as in Cambridge, Histon, Littleport and Swavesey.  As well as being invited to appear at the St Ives Festival we've done Over Carnival and Fulbourn Feast.

If all that were not enough, we've also been lucky to be invited to perform overseas opening a local wine festival in the Czech Republic in 1997 and performing a Music Hall for ex-pats in Mallorca in October 1999 – Again both for charity and huge fun.  Return trips to Mallorca took place in  March 2003 and March 2005. 

A number of our members have been involved with the group from day one including our President, Christine Turner, Wendy Lowe our secretary and John Lamoon, Chairman of the Music Halls.  Mike Bernard, our resident Musical Director also appears in the Music Hall on piano.  We are also lucky to have the benefit of a number of members offering to produce and direct shows and as well as Christine and John taking on the majority of this demanding task, Stuart Bell, Olive Swain, Peter Whitmore, Mandy Turpin, Pippa Corney and Sean Baker have all taken up the mantle from the current membership.
